- 2010-08-27 - Allow me to introduce... roselea designs.Lets extend a great, big, warm welcome to a new designer whose pieces are available in Regalia Boutique. roselea designs Each piece from roselea designs is handmade by Michelle Woods. She grew up in Nelson, BC and has always been inspired by nature and art. Her skills working with leather were taught to her by her grandmother. These teachings afforded her with the means to make the bags that she always dreamed of. Each bag is unique, and generally customized to what the buyer wants. Nature is one of the greatest sources of inspiration behind roselea designs, as evident by the intricate detailing in each creation. Whether the design elements contain floral, foliage, or feathers, these bags make a statement without being flashy. Woods just recently began introducing earrings constructed of leather into the line. Using the same natural colours and overall theme they illustrate a vision with consistency. Each pair is hand carved creating wearable art that is never the same.
- 2010-08-20 - If you haven't checked out our selection of jewellery and apparel by K.KOOL. Please do.K.KOOL represents the creative genius of Victoria native, Kaylea Reeve. Her pieces are a fusion of new and old making each creation an original. One of the signature looks that K.KOOL offers is the traditional dreamcatcher with a contemporary spin. They are bright, bold and classic, yet still embody a feeling of true vintage. K.KOOL designs have been particularly centred around jewellery, offering an array of necklaces and earrings, but have also expanded into fashion apparel. Regardless of the selected media, the line is thematically unified by a fresh and innovative sense of using classic pieces and presenting them with an undeniably modern twist. K.KOOL is currently delving into the depths of fashion by exploring the possibilities of clothing design to be launched soon.

- 2010-07-30 - ANIMAUX designs will make you smile!New pieces from ANIMAUX designs arrived this week and they are lovely! Victoria local, Tiffany Goebel, is the creative mind behind ANIMAUX designs. Her collections range from the delicately charmed to the intricately beaded, drawing attention to her preferred design mediums, chain, beads, and charms. She has spoken of her design process as one which is heavily influenced by the desire to create unique pieces of jewellery that blend femininity with edge. Many have said that her jewellery also seems inspired by the west coast. Her use of materials such as seed beads, feather charms and stone chips are suggestive of this association. She reflects upon her style as one that is constantly changing. She feels it is greatly dependent on the happenings of her life. As a result, an ANIMAUX design defies a singular description. Instead, it invokes an array of nuances unique to each piece. Visit us at Regalia Boutique to claim one for yourself! Link...
- 2010-07-17 - We love Georgina Baker & the new jewellery she has sent us.We just got new pieces from Georgina Baker. Her jewellery designs that incorporate sterling silver dining utensils provide an elegant reinvention of an inherited collectable. Georgina Baker jewellery is inspired by the trinkets and collectables of a by-gon era; a time of detail and femininity, costume jewellery and functionality. Growing up in a family of girls, Georgina learnt from a young age the need for women to surround themselves with objects that speak about identity and personality. Georgina is a trained silversmith and has worked in fashion jewellery for seven years. Take a look at more of her collections on her website, www.georginabaker.co.nz ... Link...

- 2010-05-28 - Metal Kites & the PhonemesWe're celebrating Regalia Boutique's move into the alley with a concert in the studio upstairs. Our friends from Toronto are in town to bring the music. Awesome folks, food and drinks downstairs in the new store, Great music. Tickets are $10, available in advance as of Saturday May 22nd at Regalia Boutique's current location on Pandora. Super limited space, so reserving in advance is recommended. The Phonemes Myspace: www.myspace.com/thephonemes Website: www.thephonemes.com video: http://www.southernsouls.ca/thephonemes.html The musical project of Magali Meagher, the Phonemes’ sinewy lyrical imagery finds purchase in simple, melody driven songs and layered rhythm. Sometimes with a band and sometimes with only her own two wings, Magali has sung her way across North America and Europe with Owen Pallett, Bob Wiseman, Basia Bulat, Laura Barrett, The Hidden Cameras, Forest City Lovers and others, backed up American indie icon Daniel Johnston on drums, starred in The Rat King rock opera at New York's international Fringe Festival, opened Kids in the Hall Scott Thompson's "Scottastrophe" tour as well as composed music for a handful animated films. Magali's song "April, let's send his colleagues an e-mail" appears on this year's Friends in Bellwoods compilation to benefit the Toronto Daily Bread Foodbank. Magali is also a member of the wildly popular, Weezer approved band Sheezer with Dana Snell (The Bicycles, Gentleman Reg), Laura Barrett, Robin Hatch (formerly of Sports, the band) and lead guitarist Alysha Haugen. The Phonemes latest recording released on Blocks Recording Club "There's something we've been meaning to do" was recorded by Efrim Menuck (A Silver Mt. Zion, Godspeed you black emperor) at thee mighty hotel2tango (Arcade Fire, Vic Chesnutt) and features ubiquitous wunderkind Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy). Magali is working on a second full length recording entitled “The Vanishing Point” to be released in 2010. Metal Kites www.myspace.com/metalkites video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVFXejU6NfQ Despite the laws of physics, John Tielli's Metal Kites have taken flight. This unusual and beautiful feat was accomplished with the aid of male and female voices, guitars, synths, drums and an assortment of unconventional sounds including tapping, howling, clanking, thumping, swishing, and the melancholic cries of a theremin. These textures along with haunting melodies and dreamlike stories of spiritual and intellectual awakening bring to mind the subconscious explorations of influences such as The Pixies, the Talking Heads, Bob Dylan and film maker David Lynch. Each Metal Kites song seems to create a little world of it's own with unexpected twists that keep you hanging on to every last word and note. If the listener hears similarities in the timbre and last name of the lead singer to Martin Tielli of Rheostatics that's because John Tielli is Martin's younger brother. If the listener hears some similarities to the Arcade Fire, that too would make sense, given that John's previous influential, Ottawa based indie rock outfit, Clark the band included two members of that band back in the early to mid 2000's (Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara). Incidentally, not long before becoming indie rock icons, the Arcade Fire actually opened for Clark the band on two occasions. Clark the band released 2 critically acclaimed CD's. Of Clark the band's 2005 release “The Woods”, Exclaim! Magazine announced: “truly special...a stunning achievement” and the Ottawa Sun declared: “it’s among the most sublime collection of brilliant, utterly unique pop music you are ever likely to hear.” In 2002 Clark the band was one of 3 finalists for CBC's “Big Break Contest” and subsequently appeared on ZED TV. Since moving back to his hometown of Toronto in 2006, John Tielli who is the lead singer and primary songwriter of Metal Kites has taken up the theremin and seems to have made a special bond with the unusual instrument. *I know the links don't work, I'm figuring it out! sorry!

- 2010-01-21 - Art for HaitiWe at Regalia want to aid the Haitian relief effort. Our resident artist/dollmaker Rev is donating 100% of the sales of seven new pieces to the YéleHaiti relief agency, directly assisting the survivors of the earthquake. Rev says "It is of the utmost importance that people understand the history of the poorest and most African nation in the Western hemisphere. Haitians declared their independence from France only 28 years after the U.S. broke off from England. In 1804, the loss of Haiti by France was an embarrassment to Napoleon. In his anger, he sent his colonial officers to fire bullets at the noses of characteristically African sphinx throughout Egypt. The loss of Haiti meant loss of Western economic power for France." Rev also views Haiti as a spiritual force tightly connected to the Yoruba in Nigeria. "Many Western people still don't get Voudun (voodoo), they think it's about sticking pins in dolls and cracking eggshells. This tragedy is an opportunity for people to understand why Haiti is such a dichotomy of spiritual richness and brutal economic poverty. For me, as a descendant of Jamaicans, I honor my nation's part in liberating Haiti in the late 1700's because it was a Jamaican spiritual leader named Boukman who appointed Toussaint L'Ouverture as the leader of Haiti's independence movement. Haiti scared the shit out of European colonial powers. Haiti is proof that spiritual unification can work miracles. Please visit www.yele.org for more information about the agency, and Haiti's ongoing struggle. The dolls will be on display in our window for the next two weeks. Images will be posted soon!

- 2009-06-23 - Rev Doll WindowRev has taken over our window display with a new bushel of visionary woven art dolls, incorporating words, woods and found objects into his display. So far, everyone has stopped to have a look, some are intrigues, other intimidated, but the installation is effective in it's ability to pique interest and raise questions. Rev's work has been a fixture in Victoria for nearly a decade now, straddling the line between arts and crafts and tricking us into thinking they are both. We're threatening to build him a website.
